Sexism, Thy Name Is John McCain w/poll

"Frailty, thy name is woman."

Sound familiar? how about this one:

"Hell Hath No Fury Like A Woman Scorned"

Whether taken as a compliment or insult, there is no doubt these phrases are sexist.

Do women really experience anger on some greater level then men?  Are women less able to control their emotions?  Are women more likely to take rash actions, to make impulsive decisions based on their emotions?

To think so is surely sexist, which is why I say:

Sexism, Thy Name Is John McCain

this diary is crossposted at DailyKos

On June 3rd, the end of the democratic primaries, and the night Senator Barack Obama clinched the nomination, effectively ending Senator Hillary Clinton's bid for the White House, a strange thing happened.

Instead of only hearing speeches from the two democratic contenders who were involved in elections that day, the Conventional Media, in conjunction with the GOP, treated us to a speech by the Republican nominee, Senator John McCain.

Most interesting in this speech was McCain's lavish praise for Senator Clinton, a woman who a voter called a "bitch" to his face and his response was to laugh.

Yes Senator McCain's obvious pandering to Clinton supporters was opportunistic.

Yes it was petty and obviously a political play.

But more importantly, something others do not seem to be realizing is that

Senator McCain's pandering was and is completely and thoroughly Sexist.

Upon coming to the close of the primaries it was obvious to everyone that there were some Clinton Supporters that were threatening to defect.

Whether these threats were all genuine or a combination of disillusioned voters and Republican poseurs will never be known, but not only were these threats given significant traction in the media, they were even polled.

Therefore, it is not wrong to assume that McCain knew of these threats and it is obvious that he has sought to take advantage of them.

Why is this sexist?

Because, McCain has not once in his several days of pandering, both through his political operatives and in his speeches, given the Female Democrats who supported Clinton even one substantive reason to vote for him, which insinuates that he believes they are not a group of voters that make decisions based on issues, rather assuming they are a group of individuals that make decisions based on emotions.

For a man that believes there is no fury like a woman scorned, he seems remarkably eager to insult this very large group of informed and intelligent women!

I find this, incredibly offensive as a woman.

Yes, women are emotional, but So are Men.

Yes men make decisions based on issues, but So do Women.

How dare Senator McCain imply otherwise with his actions.

Will Senator McCain reverse Roe vs. Wade?  Yes!  Does McCain expect former Clinton Supporters to suddenly disregard his solid stance on Pro-Life legislation? Yes!

Does Senator McCain really believe women are more likely to let a politician send their son to war because their favored politician did not win the primary? Yes!

McCain's actions, his utter lack of an attempt to appeal to these women on an intellectual level makes his true opinions concerning them obvious.

McCain believes women supporters of Clinton are unintelligent and easily manipulated.  McCain goes to the length of not even bothering to appear as if he has anything to offer these democrats in terms of policy.

Senator McCain, if you are going to debase yourself by obvious pandering, you could at least pay the Women of our Democratic Party the compliment of Pretending to attract them with Substantive Issues.  If you wish to ensnare these intelligent women you will have to do much more than pander to emotions, in fact with your single-minded focus on the emotions of these women you show your true colors.

You don not offer these women any positions on policies because you truly believe they are too stupid or vapid to realize you are Not a politician who cares about women's issues.

Shame on you Senator McCain.  I pity you.  It is sad to see a man live as long as you and hold on to these attitudes that are so outdated.

Senator McCain, you are a perfect example of the fact that old does not equal wise.

This is the twenty first century.  Senator McCain, you WILL do voters the favor of treating them as intelligent human beings.

And, Senator McCain, can I just say you are obviously a total idiot for trying to pull one over on these women, and in effect, the democratic party.

Re: Sexism, Thy Name Is John McCain w/poll (none / 0)

I think the whole idea of being pissed about Sexism, and the solution is voting for a Republic is the same as being pissed about being an alcoholic and the solution is, go chug a fifth of Vodka?

Ever been to a Republic Party meeting?

Well, here in WA state, they are dominated by the Religious Right, and, not a lot of powerful women dominating the conversations?

More a lot of thinking about "a mans and woman's role in the biblical sense..."

Good luck with that, Feminists who are voting for McCain?

exactly, I don't get how McCain is somehow (none / 0)

good on women's issues

I just find it incredibly insulting that he thinks these women will vote for him without him actually doing Anything for them.

Seems to me a woman that would herself to be played by McCain is not healthy emotionally and in some way perhaps enjoys abuse.

Just my opinion

Re: exactly, I don't get how McCain is somehow (none / 0)

McCain hasn't done anything for women.

Obama hasn't done anything for women.

No difference there.

The Democratic party hasn't fully backed women on anything on a national level since Roe.

One party is offering practically nothing, the other party offers nothing.

There are women who accept the crumbs from the Democratic table and support Obama. They are satisfied with the status quo.

There are women who are truly fed up but willing to go the hunger strike to support McCain. If the numbers are large enough to affect the general election in November perhaps then the stewards of at least one party will be prepared to listen.
